Jane D'silva
This year I celebrate my 10th year at ASB – it’s really hard to believe! This is now the place I’ve lived the longest (by far!) since I was a kid. A third culture kid myself, I was born to American parents working in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire, then) in central Africa. Though they have been there until their retirement later this month (A life change ahead for them!), I was new many times…as the political situation was quite volatile and we had to evacuate a few times, every 4 years my parents would return to the USA to let people know what work and developments they were seeing and I went to boarding school in Kenya for high school.
I did attend college in the USA and worked for a short time in the Minnesota Public School system. I have been abroad since, however, in Brussels, Belgium and Accra, Ghana before moving to Mumbai. I came for the school and and still very much here for the school, but now have the bonus of a Mumbaiker husband and two little kids! I, too, am now an ASB parent as my daughter Arya starts in PreK3 and our son Jonathan joined us on Nov 30, 2016. He’s now one year old and we hope to finalize the paperwork on his adoption anytime!
My passion for teaching stems from a deep-seated belief that each individual is significant and complex. I consider it an honor to be part of the journey that each of my students goes through, especially as they make this shift over the next few years from childhood to adulthood. I see my job as guiding students to get to know themselves better, take on the challenges and celebrate the wonders, push them to be their personal best and expect them to step up to do their part to make their world a better place. Though I’ve been teaching Grade 5 for many years, I never cease to learn learn from my students, both as a teacher and as individual. I’m grateful for that, as I believe we are all learners and this approach to life can be transformational.
I’m looking forward to another amazing year of supporting your children as they develop and prepare for middle school and adolescence.
Sincerely, Jane D'silva
Pari Duperawalla
Hello everyone, I am Parinita Dupetawalla, but everyone calls me Pari or Ms. Pari. I started my journey at ASB in 2002, bringing with me a Bachelors in Arts and a plethora of experience in swimming as a competitive sport (I participated at the National level in swimming and water polo). I joined the PE department as a swimming assistant and have been a SAISA swimming coach at ASB for nearly 10 years. Then in 2006, I moved to the classroom and remained there until August 2016 as a Teaching Assistant in 1st Grade and then 3rd Grade. Working alongside some amazing educators.
From childhood to my teens and even when I joined ASB, I felt swimming was and would be my life. However after spending time with the students in the lower grades, my opinion radically changed. I had to be around the students, learning, imparting the ASB vision and giving them and myself a sense of achievement.
I believe that there is so much growing and learning to be done in ASB. I am looking forward to gaining new knowledge and the challenges Grade 5 will bring.
